One of my all-time favorite genres is dystopian fiction. There is something very thought-provoking about reading about a world that could be our own. Even if they are set in worlds that might never come to pass, there is something honest about them, the realization that what is utopian for some is always dystopian for another. I love that they make you question your own priorities and really consider if we could live with the fallout. So, here are my top ten, and a bonus five! In no particular order, of course.

  1. Divergent series by Veronica Roth (plus the novellas)
  2. Delirium series by Lauren Oliver (plus the novellas)
  3. Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi (plus the novellas)
  4. The Handmaid’s Tale duology by Margaret Atwood
  5. Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins (prequel coming soon!)
  6. The Giver series by Lois Lowry
  7. The Stand by Stephen King
  8. Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld
  9. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
  10. The Maze Runner series by James Dashner (plus the novellas)

Bonus reads:

  1. Matched series by Ally Condie
  2. The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist
  3. The Chemical Garden series by Lauren DeStefano
  4. The Van Winkle Project by Karri Thompson
  5. The Possession series by Elana Johnson
